Meet Preview
This coming weekend everyone who didn't completely die at Regionals will trek down to Virginia for their last regular race of the season before Nationals.
Leading the women's team for the last time, Anna Staats (Sr.) is looking to finish off her NIRCA cross country career with a bang, or at least with one more award. Following, Naomi Corns (Jr.) and Julia Corns (Jr.) are finishing off their season and looking to give us all a glimpse of what to expect for their next year when they lead the club for their last year. (are you crying while reading this? because I'm crying while writing it). Continuing her last season, the absolute unit that is Bella Facchine (Sr.) is back for the rest of the season after kicking off with a great race at Regionals. After a mistake made by a certain President who's name starts with A, who will remain unnamed, Kate Miller (Sr.) is also signed up for this race. She will be spending the rest of the week deciding if she's willing to redestroy her leg to run this race. We'll find out 3 seconds before the start of the race.
Isaac Montgomery (Jr.) has stated he plans to take this race easy as if Isaac has ever ran easy in his life. He might change his mind when he realizes he can easily come out as top dawg in this race. Of course, he could probably do that running easy. That is unless Dawit Tegegn (Sr.) got in shape in the past two weeks which is completely possible (I think). Alex Hulburt (Sr.) is expected to have a decent race (I think) but it all comes down to if he remembers his breakfast that morning. Of course there's a rumor he might pack it. Coming back under his own name and after running an entire marathon with a broken arm, this race should be a piece of cake for Sam Clemens (Sr.). Zach Starr the Track Star (Fr.) has been having a break through season and should take this opportunity to be top dawg, if everyone else decides to run easy. We believe in you Zach. I'll trip Isaac if I need to.
The weather has been very comfortable lately and this course is flat and through the woods, so if anything this should be a very enjoyable race.

The Race
Meet Recap
That awkward moment when everyone drops out at the last minute and you don't have full teams... Last Saturday a small portion of the UMBC Running Club made their way down to Virginia to squeeze in one last cruiser before Nationals.
Coming through in 5th place for her last """official""" (I think) cross country meet was Anna Staats (Sr.) who ran a great time of 23:20 finishing off her career with a bang. This time is almost exactly three minutes faster than her very first NIRCA race which is also how many years Anna will have been in college, and is exactly how many women we had racing at this meet. Illuminati confirmed. Coming in next for our small pack of dawgs was Julia Corns (Jr.) tearing up the field and coming in at a PR time of 25:49, placing 23rd! Please do track this year Julia. Rounding out for the Retrievers was Bella Faccine (Sr.) coming through in 28:06 and placing 45th. She'll be looking to break that 28 for Nationals.
The men took the unique approach of racing and jogged the first mile together while singing "Country Roads". This of course ended when Isaac Montgomery (Jr.) became very predictable and took off in the second mile to squeeze in a time of 31:33 and placing 52nd overall. Taking off behind him was Alex Hulburt (Sr.) who spends more energy making sure he knows where everyone is than running the race. We will be using the money from next week's bake sale to buy tracking devices for everyone. Nonetheless he was able to pull off a 33:36. Sam Clemens (Sr.) kept the promise of jogging along and jogged all the way up until the end when he smoked the pack of JMU hobbyjoggers coming in at 36:57.
All in all a solidish meet, that's over now. Everyone rest up for Nats!
