2013-2014
In their first year of competition they finished 45th in the nation out of ~95 teams. In the Fall of 2013, boosted by a strong freshman class the club finished 27th out of 115 teams across the nation. The team was pleased with their improvement but knew that a top 20 ranking had been squandered due to the loss of top runner Jordan Psaltakis. With all top 7 runners returning for the next cross season the team hoped to push top 15 in the nation. The fall also highlighted the marathon debut of Jatin Narang and Samuel Jackson at the Baltimore Marathon. Jatin finished 4th place overall in a time of 2:43 setting a UMBC School Record for club and varsity athletes. However in the fall 2014 season NIRCA Nationals was held in Michigan, too far for the club to travel they did not compete at nationals. |
In the spring the club competed in the Fredrick Half Marathon. In 2014 Jatin and Jordan both made an attempt at the 70 minute barrier however Jordan ran 1:13:27 and Jatin ran 1:13:45 placing the 6th and 7th respectively. Neither ran the next year Jordan went on to run for the varsity team and Jatin went on to run a 2:40 at the Boston Marathon. For the women's team Katelyn Seale ran 1:41:28 placing 46th. In 2015 Matt Gleasner and Brandon Folio made their marathon debuts Matt running 3:02:44 in 47th and Brandon 2:58:17 in 29th. At the Fredrick Half Marathon, Saul Castillo lead the men's team in 1:21:14 in 27th while Katelyn Steale lead the women running 1:41:42 placing 48th.
2016-2018
In 2016 and 2017, the club continued to build as they attended numerous meets and saw many records fall. During the spring of 2017, the club successfully hosted their first home meet, The Retriever Opener. In the 2018 season, the club truly came out in full force, breaking 28 records in the Cross Country and Track Seasons. The men's team saw a Boston Qualifier in the form of Brandon Folio and saw huge gains in the sprints as Thomas Ryba and Andrew Bowling rewrote the record book. On the women's side, the club had it's most successful year, finally fielding a full team for cross lead by Nicole Dawson and Anna Staats. In the sprints, Julia Ciattei took over all three club records in the 100-400m distances while the distance records were highly contested all season by Staats and Dawson. |
2019
The 2019 season saw continued growth in the club with new members and new challenges. Anna Staats came in top seven for every regular cross country meet of the season and individually qualified for NIRCA nationals. She also crushed a couple more records with an amazing 6k time of 23:06 at the Princeton Invitational and marathon time 3:17:12, qualifying her for the Boston Marathon which she ran later that Spring. The year also saw the debut of the marathon careers of Sam Clemens and Bella Facchine.

2020-2021
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the club had to shift to a virtual environment. During this time, our brilliant officers President, Isaac Montgomery, Women's Captain, Naomi Corns, Secretary, Julia Corns, and Men's Captain, Josh Sanchez worked their butts off to give us something to do over this strange time and thus the Running Club Quests were born! For the summer and fall of 2020 and spring of 2021, runners completed a variety of virtual "quests" each day in order to secure the most points and win the quest! Our winner for the Spring and Summer Quests was the fabulous Kate Miller and the winner of our Fall Quest was the great Sofia Zarate!
